Prof. Poonam Choudhary of University of Jammu presented a research paper entitled, ‘spirit of a place-path of symbiotic culture’ at World Heritage Congress (WHC) on cultural routes, held at Burgos, Spain. The paper focused on the route which started from Sophian and connected Jammu via Kuri Pass and Reasi. The route an important link is said to have been provided patronage by the Maharaja Gulab Singh. Vigne, the European traveler writes, “the road by the Kuri Pass, was got constructed by Maharaja Gulab Singh”. The idea to discuss the trade route and its geography at the international forum was to point how different regions get exposed to different streams of religion and culture located in different localities and that is how Reasi emerged as a place where essence of symbiotic culture is very well represented. Reasi not only act as a channel for transporting goods but also for new ideas that emerged and flourished there. This becomes evident from the discovery of the shrines like Shiv Khori, Vaishno Devi, Nau Pindia, Dera Baba Bahadur, etc, found in the area. Prof. Choudhary has also been invited to attend the World Heritage Conference being organized in Quebec, Canada. |
