| KP's extend support to Jail Bharo Andolan | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 17
Two frontline organisations of Kashmiri Pandits, All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) and Panun Kashmir Movement (PKM) on Sunday extended their full support to the 'Jail Bharo Abhiyan' of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti. The decision to extend the support was taken at a meeting attended by the prominent Kashmiri pandit leaders. " It is a big milestone of the 50-day long agitation, which is bound to set forth the next framework of the movement. In continuation of the civil disobedience programme during which the agitators successfully defied curfew and Section 144 several times, the 'Jail Bharo Abhiyan' should open the eyes and ears of the government towards the demand of the people" a joint statement issued after the meeting said. A.N.Vaishnavi, President, ASKPC and Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, PKM addressed the meeting. H.L.Chatta and Upinder Kaul, General Secretaries of ASKPC and PKM respectively were also present in the meeting. Comparing the ongoing agitation with days of Praja Parishad agitation, the Kashmiri pandit leaders said," The government only at its peril can ignore the sentiments of the public at large involved in the agitation. The current Jammu movement is reflective of the Praja Parishad uprising of 1953, the fruits of which we have been enjoying over all these decades. It becomes the duty of the nationalist forces to make the 'Jail Bharo Abhiyan' of the Sangharsh Samiti a success. Since this Abhiyan shall be in vogue for three days with effect from 18th August 2008, the Kashmiri Pandit community is appealed to take an active part in this programme as well. People are asked to join groups and processions in this regard at local levels and make the whole exercise a great historical success. The cadres of the organisations are directed to mobilize people and also offer themselves for the programme. The on-going agitation in the Jammu province, which has support of all sections of society, will continue till the core demands of the Sangarsh Samiti are met. All our resources including the human resources are available for the movement. The people are also cautioned to guard against the elements inimical to the national interests who are now desperate to disturb the social fabric of Jammu. Their efforts need to be neutralised by positive actions of the agitators. We declare that our unconditional support and contribution to the agitation shall continue till it achieves its cherished goals." |
