| Turmoil buries moves for third front formation | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 17
Legitimate political activities, including preparations for the ensuing Assembly election, stand suspended.several leaders of mainstream political parties say "one should not expect normal political acivity in the state when from tomorrow people in Kashmir were going to respond to the separatists call for UNO Chalo and those in Jammu responding to the Jail Bharo progrmme being launched by the Sangarsh Samiti. The two factions of the Hurriyat Conference have given a call for march to the United Nations Military Observers Group in Srinagar tomorrow to seek UN intervention in getting the Srinagar-Muzafarabad road open for trade and in settling the Kashmir issue.Against this the Sangarsh Samiti has enlisted support of several thousand people, including women,in Jammiu for participting in the Jail Bharo programme. The two events are likely to kick up violence and tension. Another genuine political activity connected with the formation of a third from in the state has apparently got buried under the current turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir. In reply to question Hakim Mohd.Yaseen, a former Transport Minister, today said "we do not think about the formation of the thrid front. We think of restoration of peace in the state."He said "we have not given up our efforts for forming the front but in view of the turmoil in the state we have suspended our programme." The idea for formation of a third front had been conceived by CPIM leader,M.Y.Tarigami and Ghulam Hassan Mir,Chief of Jammu Kashmir Democratic Party but both seem to be helpless creatures as they too think that the ongoing tension in the state has left no scope for them to carry their programme of front formation to its logical conclusion."It will be formed at an appropriate time",they said but they do not know when that appropriate time would come. |
