Supplies to Valley above normal

While entire separatist and mainstream political spectrum of Kashmir Valley is engaged in inviting international attention on alleged economic blockade, the government is making added efforts to ensure that supply of commodities to the Valley remains above normal.
More than 200 trucks on a daily average have both moved in or out of the Valley in past 15 days despite curfews and shut downs. The administration has already handed over the entire stretch of the National Highway to the Army to ensure supplies.
The movement of load carriers on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway showing daily improvement, as many as 2204 trucks and tankers brining essential commodities and fuel have arrived in the Valley between July 30th 2008 and August 16,2008.
Similarly, 2383 trucks have left the Valley with fruit, vegetables and other merchandise during the same period.
Giving details, a Spokesman of the Divisional Administration here said the arrivals include 733 trucks of rice, 325 of sheep, 177 of chicken, 63 of flour, 41 of wheat, 9 of mustard oil, 5 of sugar and 6 of milk. He said the tankers arriving in the Valley with fuel during this period include 147 LPG, 197 petrol, 314 diesel and 183 kerosene oil tankers.
The Spokesman said that as many as 2383 load carriers left the Valley for Jammu and onwards during this period. He said these include 1190 fruit laden and 283 vegetable carrying trucks while the number of load carriers carrying other articles and empty tankers returning after unloading fuel here was 910.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours since 2 P. M. yesterday, as many as 724 trucks and tankers carrying essential commodities and petroleum products crossed Jawahar Tunnel from either side.
According to a Spokesman of the Divisional Administration here, 348 trucks and tankers reached Srinagar from Jammu during this period. These include 69 trucks loaded with rice, 32 with chicken, 19 tankers carrying diesel, 9 kerosene oil, 34 petrol, 4 aviation fuel,
15 LPG and one milk, six trucks loaded with fresh fruits, 7 with sheep and 152 other vehicles also arrived during this period.
Similarly, 376 trucks and tankers which include 261 loaded with fresh fruits, 12 with vegetables and 38 other trucks left Srinagar to different destinations of the country. Sixty five empty tankers after unloading fuel here also left during the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, as many as 182 trucks loaded with rice have been dispatched to different destinations of the valley during past two days.
According to Director, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department, 53 trucks loaded with rice were sent to different districts of valley including 14 to Pulwama, 18 to Srinagar city, 16 to Baramula, 2 each to Anantnag and Budgam districts and one to Srinagar rural on August 16th from different FCI godowns of the valley.
Similarly, on August 17, 129 trucks loaded with rice left for different destinations in the valley. Out of these, 33 were sentto Srinagar city, 26 to Baramula, 18 to Pulwama, 14 to Anantnag, 28 toBudgam, 4 to Shopian and 8 to Kupwara districts from different FCI
godowns of valley.
More than 30 trucks were loaded today at Lethapora FCIgodown for different stations of the Valley.
Meanwhile, 10,200 LPG cylinders were dispatched to different districts of the valley today. Of these, 5,400 cylinders were sent to Srinagar city, 3000 cylinders to Baramula, 900 cylinders to Pulwama and 300 each to Bandipura, Shopian and Kulgam districts for distribution among the consumers.
