Every action has its reaction. Every reaction has its counter reaction. This is what is happening in Jammu and Kashmir during the last about two months. Kashmiris reacted against land diversion order. They went hilarious when the order was revoked. Their action was reacted by people in Jammu. PDP reacted against land diversion order even when its ministers had okayed the proposal. It was on the basis of the approval given by the PDP ministers that the land diversion order was approved by the cabinet.The PDP again acted fast by pulling out of the Government.The congress reacted to it when the former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, issued a white paper exposing the double talk of the PDP leadership.And when the people in Kashmir reacted hard against the land diversion order Ghulam Nabi Azad acted fast in getting the order revoked.
Azad's action was reacted sharply by the Jammuites. His action found its reaction in the form of birth of Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti. As the congress leaders in Jammu became the target of attack they immediately reacted by extending support to the agitation against the land revocation order.Some of them reacted angrily by demanding restoration of land to the Shrine Board.They reacted to save their skin and ensure their political survival. When the Jammuites acted in raising the level of anger against land revocation and when agitators took all steps to ensure total shutdown separatists in the valley reacted by clamouring over what they called economic blockade. And when the Jammuites raised
Bhum Bhum Bholey slogans Kashmiris reacted by shouting in favour of reopening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road for trade. The moment the Jammuites raised a voice in favour of statehood status for the region the valley centric political leaders and separatists reacted by demanding immediate settlement of the Kashmir dispute. It found reaction in Jammu where the Samiti decided to launch jail Bharo programme.
When the Jammuites blamed the centre for having succumbed to the pressure mounted by people and separatists in Kashmir the UPA Government reacted by initiating flurry of activities. It set in motion the process of confabulations at the national and the state level. Political leaders besides a couple of union ministers visited Jammu and Kashmir. They came, they saw, they discussed and went back. Leaders from Jammu and Kashmir visited Delhi where they discussed the issue. They failed to find a solution. Prime Minister ultimately decided to constitute a committee of prominent people, including jurists, scholars, academicians and others for examining the ticklish issue and for finding a solution to the satisfaction of people of both the regions. Even during these discussions Bandhs continued in Jammu and Kashmir.In between people faced odds during Bharat Bandh.
And amid announcement from the state authorities and the central Government on their determination to solve the issue threats from Kashmir were reacted by bigger threats in Jammu. Political leaders and separatists announced that land will not be restored to the Board those in Jammu reacted by announcing that land has to be given back to the Board at any cost. In the tussle between action and reaction reason has become a casualty Will better sense prevail among the contending parties ?Future events alone can determine it |
