SAMITI FIRM
• Restore land to SASB • Recall Governor Vohra
Even as the Governor NN Vohra has extended fresh invitation to leaders of Jammu agitation for a renewed round of dialogue, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti has come heavily on the state and central governments for maintaining a criminal silence on the issue and delaying resolution of Shri Amarnath Shrine land transfer controversy. The administration is on the tenterhooks as the Samiti has unveiled its Jail Bhari andolan from Monday. The Samiti leadership said that lakhs of people across the region shall be courting arrest under the leadership of various Samiti representatives who have already been nominated. In view of the apprehensions of renewed protests and demonstrations, the administration has though kept the curfew relaxation period intact –from 5AM to 8 PM –the security forces have been kept on the standby to hold on the protestors if they come out in large numbers. "We have received a letter from B B Viyas, Principal Secretary to the Governor, for talks over the Amarnath land row," Samiti spokesman Narinder Singh said. Soon after receiving the invite, the Samiti said it was ready for talks at any appropriate venue in case there was a concrete proposal or an agenda to solve the issue. He said "we reiterate our stand that if a concrete proposal or an agenda is sent to us for dialogue, we will act accordingly." If this was not done, it would be presumed that the administration was only buying time to delay resolution of the problem, the Samiti said replying to Governor's letter. This is the second invitation by the Governor to Samiti, spearheading the ongoing agitation over the land row in Jammu region, for talks to resolve the vexed issue. Meanwhile announcing its fresh agitation program, the Samiti leaders while briefing a press conference here today said that on August 18, 2008, lakhs of people will court arrest while as on August 19 women will court arrest followed by children on August 20. Terming situation in Kashmir Valley as grim and out of control, Shree Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti today lambasted both State and Central governments for maintaining a criminal silence over misdeeds of fanatic and fundamentalist forces who have let loose a reign of terror in the Valley and threatening the non-Kashmir people. Due to the threats of fanatic forces more than 400 Durbar Move employees, belonging to minority community, have already fled from the Kashmir Valley to save their lives now these forces have been threatening all minorities to leave the Valley as early as possible. It is unfortunate that instead of taking adequate steps to revive shattered confidence of the minorities, administration has virtually succumbed before the secessionist, fundamentalist and anti-national forces. Recent statement of the Director General of Police (DGP) Mr. Kuldeep Khoda is a glaring example how local police is dancing to the tune of secessionists and fundamentalist forces. Instead of taking strict action against those who raised Pakistani flag and torched Indian Tricolour, the DGP seemed to be virtually tendering apology from those who were involved in anti-national activities. Role of Jammu and Kashmir Police is biased in recent Kishtwar riots in which leaders of PDP were involved. It is clear that PDP leader Farooq Ahmed Mir had instigated the mob to attack minorities and he was himself leading the people who attacked some business establishments of Hindus. No action so far has been taken against Farooq Ahmed Mir but authorities have been harassing members of the minority community. Instead of taking some concrete steps to revive confidence of the minorities, authorities have been working overtime to shield the culprits. Minorities in Kishtwar and adjoining localities have been living under fear as authorities failed to take action against PDP and Hurriyat leaders who had instigated the mob. The Samiti took strong objection to the fact that some elements in the national media are deliberately trying to plant those elements for representing Jammu who are not deliberately trying to scuttle the struggle of Jammu. The Samiti is taking this issue seriously and warns these elements to desist from such actions. The present ongoing agitation in Jammu Region is against the 01 – July – 2008 decision of the J&K State Govt. revoking the earlier Govt. order of the allotment of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board while setting aside the secular & multi cultural ethos of the country & rights enshrined in the constitution of India on succumbing to the pressure of the fundamentalist, communal, anti–Jammu and anti-Indian mindset of the Kashmiri Leadership who have always campaigned to destroy every symbol of Indian Nationalism, Hinduism alongwith those symbolising the secular traditions of the country and those which were once the core of the Kashmiryat. |
