If the claims made by the government are anything to go by, then Tuesday is all set to bring some good news for Jammuites, to “cool” them down and take them out of the darkness. An official spokesman, briefing about the proceedings of a meeting chaired by the Governor NN Vohra said here today that the repaired transformer has been installed at the Gladni Grid station in Jammu and it shall be operational by tomorrow. It at all it happens, people in Jammu district and two other districts of the region will heave a sigh of relief after nearly two months of power outage for most of the days. “Reviewing the overall situation obtaining in the Jammu region, Mr Vohra expressed satisfaction over the restoration of the 220 x 132 KV transformation capacity at Gladni Grid Station”, said the spokesman. He added, “the Governor was informed that the Power Development Department engineers had worked round-the-clock and were able to erect and charge the new transormer of 150 MVA capacity within ten days. After charging the transformer, it is being tested on partial load and is likely to be made fully operational by tomorrow evening. With this, power requirement of 90 per cent of the area will be met providing the much needed respite to the people”. The meeting was also informed that one of the two damaged transformers of Gladni Grid had been repaired by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and has been despatched from Jhansi. The 133.34 MVA transformer is likely to reach Jammu in a week's time. The spokesman said that the Governor, N N Vohra, today held a meeting with his three Advisors and top-ranking officers to take stock of the law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Governor, who has been personally monitoring the free and timely movement of supplies on the National Highway of essential commodities and fruit, reiterated the crucial importance of ensuring uninterrupted flow of supplies -- rations, medicines, petroleum products and other essential commodities to consumers, and particularly ensure these in the rural and far off areas. The meeting was informed that the stock position of various essential commodities was satisfactory and speedily improving, as the inflow of supplies was continuing from outside the State on round-the-clock basis. About the availability of medicines, it was stated that while most of the drugs were presently available there were certain deficiencies which were being met on immediate basis. The SKIMS has ordered supplies for three months and most of them have arrived, the suppliers have been asked to airlift the balance quantity. In the past two days, 1037 trucks carrying various commodities including 707 of fruit and 44 of vegetables crossed Lower Munda for markets in the plains while 904 trucks arrived in the Valley carrying 215 truckloads of rice, 104 livestock and 238 petroleum products like diesel, petrol, LPG and K Oil. The District Development Commissioners have been asked to daily monitor the situation and ensure the availability of rations etc from the public distribution outlets across the Valley. Under the Governor's directions, the Chief Secretary has been reviewing the supply position of all the essentials supplies on daily basis. Reviewing the supply position in the Jammu region, the Governor was informed that 378 trucks carrying atta, wheat and sugar have been despatched to various districts in the past three days for distribution through Consumer Affairs Department sales outlets. Besides, 6 kerosene oil tankers have also been despatched to different areas. Later, the Principal Secretary Home and the Director General of Police apprised the meeting about the latest law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir Divisions. Those present in the meeting included the three Advisors to the Governor, Mr H H Tyabji, Dr Sudhir S Bloeria and Mr C Phunsog; Chief Secretary, Mr S S Kapur; Principal Secretary Home, Mr Anil Goswami; DGP, Mr Kuldeep Khuda; and the Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr B B Vyas. |
