| Govt mulls panel to act as interlocutor in Amarnath row | | | New Delhi | Aug 20
Frantically searching ways and means to defuse the Amarnath issue, government is thinking of constituting a group comprised of eminent persons like former Chief Justice A S Anand to act as interlocutors to talk to both sides. The Congress-led coalition at the Centre is also not happy with the way the BJP is attempting to fish in troubled waters. "We are not blaming it, but neither we are giving it a clean chit," said authoritative sources well acquainted with the issue. At the same time, they are also concerned over attempts in the valley to change the "agenda" while protesting over the Amarnath issue. "Such a move like setting up a panel of interlocutors cannot be ruled out," the sources said but ducked specific questions as to whether Justice Anand would be one of the interlocutors. The sources said that several private persons as also religious leaders are trying on their own to find a way out of the impasse. The government, they said, favoured a dialogue as it feels that any attempts to inflame passions both in the valley as also in Jammu would have a negative impact on the country with Pakistan seeking to take undue advantage. The move to constitute the group comes in the wake of the visit of the all party delegation to Jammu and Srinagar recently and the discussions held with various groups including the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti and political parties in Srinagar. |
