| Bhim arrives in Srinagar meets religious leaders | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Aug 20
Prof. Bhim Singh, chairman, JKNPP after submitting his formula to the prime minister last evening to seek amicable resolution of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board land row air-dashed to Kashmir this afternoon, and met several Islamic notables, intellectuals and handed over a copy of his two-point formula to them. In his letter to Ali Shah Geelani, Mufti Bashiruddin, Mirwais Umar Farooq and Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat etc, he strongly pleaded for their support to the proposition which he has suggested that there is historic, genuine and emotional necessity to amend section 4 of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board Act, 2000 to make it mandatory that all the members of the board shall be permanent residents of the J&K. at present only 2 members out of 9 shall have to be permanent residents of the state, which will help in cooling the tensions in the valley. While Jammu has no objection if all the members of the board are taken from noted Hindus of J&K state. The other suggestion is governor may issue an ordinance (such power is vested in him) to amend the minority government dated July 1, 2008 (which created fire in Jammu) to the effect that the said 39.88 ha land shall stand diverted to the Shrine Board without changing its proprietary status which shall remain intact with the Forest Department. This is for the creation of required infrastructure and providing full logistical support for making available various services in view to fully ensuring and facilitating the welfare, safety and security of the pilgrims during the entire period of yatra. Bhim also conveyed an emergency meeting of the Kashmir council of the Panthers Party and apprised them about the situation and role of the Panthers Party to seek amicable, honorable, acceptable resolution of the situation. |
