At least twenty persons were injured when activists of Amarnath Sangharsh Simiti clashed with the workers of congress in Akhnoor area around 45 kilometers from here. Sources further informed that dozen of persons including some police personnel received injuries in Akhnoor area, on the outskirts of Jammu city after two groups clashed, this morning. "The trouble started when the Sangharsh Samiti activists clashed with the supporters of former MLA from Akhnoor Sham Lal at Main Chowk Akhnoor. Hundreds of supporters of Sham Lal came to court arrest which was objected by Sangharsh Samiti. Sources quoting eyewitnesses told News Agency of Kashmir that congress workers and supporters of former MLA Shyam Lal Sharma took out the procession in Akhnoor Area for courting their arrest. Activists of SASS objected their separate procession and termed the congress leaders as traitors. "This led to a verbal duel between the workers of two sides followed by heavy stone pelting" one of the eye witnesses said. Sources said police open fire and lob teargas shells to disperse the mob. "Three police cops were also injured while maintaining law and order", sources added. The Samiti activists alleged that Congress had ignited the fire by canceling the land transfer order and if Congress MLA wanted to join the movement, he should resign from the party," informed sources. "Both the groups pelted stones on each other resulting in injuries to half a dozen people. However, police rushed to the spot and fired teargas shells and restored to cane charge to disperse the mob. The clashes between police and protestors were going on till afternoon. The administration also deployed Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Army personnel to prevent any untoward incident," maintained sources.
