| JKPCC distances itself from Sharma's statement | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Aug 20
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Wednesday distanced itself from its senior vice president Dharampal Sharma's statement demanding arrest of Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani for "sedition". "A meeting of senior Congress leaders and workers was held at Congress headquarters to refute the news bulletin that JKPCC has demanded the arrest of Syed Ali Shah Geelani for sedition", its senior vice president Mohammad Muzaffar Paray said in a statement here. Sharma had issued the statement without consulting the state unit of the party, Paray said, adding that it was his personal opinion. On his party's stand on the prevailing unrest in Jammu and Kashmir over the Amarnath land controversy, Paray said all disputes can be resolved through discussion and dialogue. |
