| Jammu goes Gandhi way, starts civil disobedience | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 20
TAKING INSPIRATION from the father of the nation, Mahatama Gandhi, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) on Wednesday (August 20) decided to launch a ’civil disobedience movement’ in the Jammu region to protest against the failure of the Central government to do justice to the cause of people. While Gandhiji had launched the movement in 1930 to invigorate the struggle for freedom from the British rule, the present civil disobedience movement in Jammu has been initiated to end the Kashmiri imperialist yoke and shock the Indian government out of slumber. As part of the civil disobedience, Sangharsh Samiti has called upon the people of Jammu not to pay value added tax (VAT), token tax, electricity and water dues, passenger tax and other kinds of taxes. The Samiti has also decided to take out a dummy funeral procession of the Central government in protest against its audacious silence over the incidents of violence against the various sections of Hindus in Kashmir comprising students, transporters, labourers and even judges. “The various acts of omission and commission by the separatists have also been condoned by the Centre,” said the Samiti. It also alleged that governor NN Vohra at the directions of the Central government is supporting anti-national activities in Kashmir to divert the attention of national and international communities from the demands of the Jammu people. The Samiti has called upon the people of the Jammu region to participate in full strength along with entire family in the Shri Krishan Sudershan Chakra Singh Naad Yatra on August 23. It has also given a call for complete bandh and ’chakka jam’ on August 25 and the people have been asked not to ply even their private vehicles on this day. |
