| Sadhus ready to join Amarnath land agitation: Shankaracharya | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 21
Jagat Guru Shankaracharya Swami Amritanand Dev Teerth of Sharda Sarwagya Peeth on Thursady said that sadhus from all over the country are ready to join the ongoing struggle in Jammu for restoration of 100 acres of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB). About ten lakh sadhus are prepared to come here any time on the call of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS), spearheading the ongoing agitation in Jammu, to lend their support to the people's movement, Swami said at a joint press conference with Samiti leaders here this evening. However, SAYSS convener Leela Karan Sharma said the Samiti would consider this offer and take a decision at an appropriate time. Swami also demanded that arrangements should be made for Naga sadhus to stay in Baltal area, en route to Amarnath cave shrine, as they can withstand any climatic hazards. The authorities can notify the area for their stay, he added. Referring to the situation in Kashmir, the Swami accused the Centre of pursuing policies which helped foster fissiperous tendencies. Even religion teaches us to deal sternly with those who hurt sentiments of any community or religion, he added. Stating that he would be visiting Kashmir valley after September 25, the saint said that he would try his best to make people understand how to live in "Bharat" with peace. He also demanded that the convener of the Samiti be provided security in view of present law and order scenario and the threats posed by subversive elements. |
