| FCI delivers full quota of rice to J&K | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Aug 21
Food Corporation of India today said it has delivered full quota of rice for August to Jammu and Kashmir. FCI has already delivered full quota of rice for the current month and more than 4,000 MT rice has been issued against September quota as well, an official release said here today. It said 1,181 trucks loaded with rice, wheat and 1,278 sugar has been dispatched during the current month till yesterday. Denying reports of reduction in foodgrain quota for the Kashmir Valley, the release said Government of India had allocated 34,427 Metric tons of rice for Kashmir against which on an average about 28,000 MT rice was being lifted by state Consumer affairs and Public distribution department (CAPD). This resulted in lapse of 6,000 MT quota of rice every month. Based on this offtake pattern, Jammu and Kashmir government reviewed the position and recommended to Government of India for reduction of monthly allocation of rice by 5,000 MT and wheat in lieu of rice. Accordingly, allocation of rice and wheat was re-fixed, the release said adding allocation of 4,000 MT rice was reduced and allocation of 3000 MT wheat was enhanced for the Valley. |
