Majority of terror suspects held in Pakistan
9/8/2006 6:13:15 PM

Washington, Sep 8 Nine of the 14 'high-value' terror suspects, recently transferred to the US military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, were originally arrested in Pakistan, according to official sources.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, is among them. Abu Zubaydah, believed to be a senior al-Qaeda aide, had also been nabbed in Pakistan a year earlier.

According to official documents, Abu Zubaydah led the authorities to the arrest of other 9/11 suspects. Majid Khan and Ammar Baluchi, both Pakistani nationals, were also seized in 2003.

Other terror suspects include those allegedly responsible for the bombing of US destroyer Cole in 2000 in Yemen and the 1998 attacks on US missions in Kenya and Tanzania.

''These are dangerous men with unparalleled knowledge about terrorist networks and their plan for new attacks,'' President George W Bush said in a speech on Wednesday.
