| Serial explosions rock Malegaon; 25 killed | | | New Delhi, September 8, At least 25 people were killed and over 100 others injured when two blasts rocked a crowded market of Malegaon town in Nashik district of Maharashtra on Friday, a private television channel reported. The town has a long history of communal violence.
However, there have been conflicting reports about the number of the dead. Police have confirmed only five deaths so far, adding the toll may rise. The Some reports said at least 7 people were killed.
Details were still sketchy, but the Friday afternoon explosions occurred in a market area close to a mosque in Malegaon, about 300 km northeast of Mumbai, as worshippers were returning after offering afternoon prayers.
Maharashtra has been put on alert following the blasts.
Several police teams have been sent to the site of the blasts.
