| Ask cops how they work | | | Sumit Sharma Jammu | Aug 21
Ever since the eruption of turmoil on the issue Shri Amarnath Shrine land, several heads have rolled in the hierarchy of Police and civil administration but things have not improved by any measure. The Jammu and Kashmir Police does not have a total strength of more than one lakh cops –at all levels and all ranks –but just few dozen of its cops are out to face a mob of several thousands. Kudos to policemen who are rolling the stone even in the present turmoil without vehicles. A survey made by this scribe reveals the fact that one sixth of the policemen are doing their duties without vehicles in Jammu zone. Giving a glance to the Bhaderwah, a home constituency of the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, policemen whether SDPO, SHO or Special Operation Group no vehicle is available to them forced a common man to think how they can performed their duties. Where as politicians even the emerging leaders are enjoying the official vehicles. Not only in Bhaderwah one sixth officials deputed in Jammu have to arrange their own vehicles for policing, think about those who don’t have even personal. Now question arises who at the helm of the affairs are responsible for this. The concerned SSPs make a list of the carriages of constables(COC).The list then reaches to DGP.DGP then forwards the list to the Secretariat from where it reaches to Home Department and then to centre government. Centre then send the funds to the state government where it is distributed among Jammu Zone, Ladakh Zone and Kashmir Zone again the discrimination lies here as a result policemen deployed in Jammu have to arrange their personal vehicles as there exist shortage but still policemen have to perform their duties in a tight lipped manner. Speaking to the scribe on the condition of anonymity one of the senior police officials said that he was using his personal vehicle for policing which costs his own pocket as private vehicles are not allowed to fill the petrol from the police petrol pump as in spite of doing day and night duty we are getting meager pay but we have no other option but to continue with the duty like a tree. |
