As a result of ongoing turmoil people in the Jammu region are faced with the problems created by the closure of postal and courier services,banks on account of the ban on SMS services.Number of cell phone users have failed to get the bill amount through SMS.They have been trying to send SMS on 53333 but they get the reply that message sending has failed. They were awakened following a Government order indicating that ban on SMS services likely to continue because of the turmoil.When the Government banned the SMS services in the first week of August it had stated that the ban had been warranted because the vested interests continued to circulate rumours through SMS which had an unhealthy impact on the security situation in the state. Later the order was challenged in the High Court and the court directed the Government to lift the ban.The Government went in appeal against the High court order to the Supreme Court which upheld the Government decision. Cell phone users have urged the BSNL and other mobile companies to send the phone bills through SMS because the bills cannot be delivered either by post or by courier. They have suggested to the BSNL and other companies to seek permission for using the SMS only for sending details on bill amount. |
