| KPs prayer for land transfer | | | New Delhi | Aug 22
Amarnath Action Group,(AAG) a conglomerate of various political and social groups of Kashmiri Pandits, residing in Delhi and NCR, organized a prayer meeting at Rajghat in the capital today to express continued support to the SASS in favour of its just demand of restoration of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. Two minutes silence was also observed in the memory of those who laid down their lives for the cause. Also present in the meeting were a large number of members of Delhi and NCR based various Jammu social groups. "Mahatma Gandhi saw a ' ray of hope' in Kashmir when the subcontinent was aflame following the two nation theory based partition and today the fundamentalists in the valley are up against the transfer of a mere 100 acres of uninhabitable land for the development of temporary facilities along the arduous Amarnath pilgrimage " was a common lament. "Kashmiri Pandits were subjected to ethnic cleansing in the valley 19 years ago and now there is an attempt to erase the remaining symbols of Indian presence in the valley and in it the so called mainstream parties have also joined the forces of intolerance" lamented the angry Hindu Pandits. The revoking of the land transfer order has hurt the sentiments of the nationalists of J&K State and it is being seen as a planned assault on the cherished beliefs and practices, the AAG observed. The participants protested the continued misinformation campaign and distortion of history by the vested interests that the pilgrimage was just 100-150 years old adding that "Even the most benevolent of the Muslim rulers Sultan Zainul Abidin, popularly remembered as Badshah, also visited the cave shrine in the 15th century. The protestors raised slogans against the Kashmir based anti-national forces of Hurriyat and JKLF, who are now also being openly supported by mainstream political outfits like PDP and NC. They were angry over the role played by Mehbooba Mufti of PDP and Omar Abdullah of NC in crafting this entire communal disharmony and also giving communal statements in the Indian Parliament. Extending unconditional solidarity and support to the people of Jammu in the ongoing nationalistic mass movement, the KP’s hoped that better sense would prevail upon those opposing it. Devotional songs and Bajaans were sung on the occasion. |
