| Complete bandh in Udhampur, day curfew lifted | | | Sarita Jamwal Udhampur | Aug 22
The Udhampur and its adjoining areas, observed a complete shutdown today, on the call given by the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti, which is spearheading the stir over the land revocation row. Meanwhile, Udhampur Bar also suspended its work in support of the ongoing strike paralyzing work in courts. The Samiti, a conglomerate of thirty five political, social and religious outfits, is demanding removal of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and restoration of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board. The protesters today took put protest rally which passed through several bazaars raising Bam Bam Bole slogans. They also burnt tyres and smashed window panes of private vehicles on Dhar road. Normal life was thrown out of gear as all the business establishments were closed and traffic remaining off from the roads in the district. However, the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti has asked the people to participate in full strengthen in Shri Krishna Sudarshan Chakra Singnad Yatra on Saturday and to go on fast on August 24. The Samiti has also called for a complete bandh and Chakka Jam on August 25. Meanwhile, curfew was relaxed in the district from 0500 hours to 2200 hours, however the night curfew will continue as a precautionary measure. |
