| Bhim visits Sunjwan; interacts with migrant Gujjars | | ‘Demands proper security, free ration, rehabilitation of the migrants’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 23
To instill confidence among the Gujjars, who migrated from their homes and hearths, and are putting up at Sunjwan, in the wake of government’s failure to provide them security, the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party Chief, accompanied by several party leaders, today visited Sunjwan and interacted with the Gujjar families. He threatened to go on hunger strike if the administration failed to take the much needed steps to rehabilitate the Gujjar families with honour and dignity. Spending nearly five hours with the angry Gujjar families, the JKNPP team heard their tale of exodus. The migrants held both the state administration and police responsible for their forced migration and accused it in failing to provide security to the minority community, especially the Gujjars, hailing from Kathua, Hiranagar, Samba, Jourian, Akhnoor and some other areas of Jammu region. They alleged that they had to even abandon their cattle and properties to save their lives from the fury of police and the angry protesters. Expressing his party’s sympathy with the migrant Gujjars, Prof Singh urged the state Governor to intervene personally and sent somebody to attend to the problems of these migrants. He also demanded immediate relief, medical care and camping facilities to the affected families, apart from instilling confidence among them by providing security in the Gujjar dominated areas. The JKNPP Chief also made a strong appeal to the people of Jammu and particularly the youth of the majority community to provide social and physical security to the members of the minorities at every cost to save the honour and dignity of the Dogras and future of entire Jammu region. State president of the party Bansi Lal Sharma, Anita Thakur, S. Daljit Singh, Ghulam Ali, H S Jamwal general secretaries and Vilakshan Singh state secretary accompanied the party chief during the visit. |
