Despite a complete shut down and an uncertain situation, the City of Temples today wore a rare festive look on the eve of Krishna Janamashthmi which saw a huge participation of people. An impressive Shobha Yatra organized by the Dharmarth Trust and Shri Sanatan Dharm Sabha had lakhs of people joining the procession. Elders taking part in the Shobha Yatra admitted that today’s procession had largest every participation in Jammu. An a joint effort of organizers and several local organizations the routes of Shobha Yatra were tastefully decorated all along with thousands of saffron flags, buntings and banners. “Never in my life I have seen such a huge participation in the Shobha Yatra on the eve of Krishna Janamashthami”, said Narayan Dutt Sharma, resident of Old City. He said the procession on this eve is always marked by a huge participation but today’s show was unprecedented. “Such massive participation also underlines the unity of people solidarity on the ongoing agitation”, opined Dutt. There was also a rare and interesting feature of today’s procession. Despite the fact that it was occasion of Krishna Janamashthami, thousands of people were seen chanting slogans of “Bhum Bhum Bhole” which chanted for lord Shiva. The popular chant in honor of Lord Krishna is “Govind Bolo, Hare Gopal Bolo”. Slogans of “Vande Ma’tram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” also dominated the procession. It may be mentioned that during the ongoing two-month long agitation in Jammu the chants of “Bhum Bhum Bhole” and “Vande Ma’tram” have remained a dominant slogan across the region. The authorities in Jammu had made adequate security and other arrangements for the Shobha Yatra in all parts of City particularly the traditional routes which the processions follow. More than 40 Jhankies (tableaux) on life and teachings of Lord Krishna were part of the procession which attracted attention of everyone. People were seen decorating various parts of City since early this morning. Despite a shut down since several weeks, the market associations of various areas had made enthusiastic elaborate arrangements for reception of Shobha Yatra at various places along the route. Specially decorated vehicles were also seen in different parts of city playing Shrimad Bhagwad Gita, Shaloka and Bhajans. The traditional Rath, carrying idols, came out of Shri Raghunath Mandir, devotees took to shouting slogans in praise of Lord Krishana. Some of them were seen doing Kirtan on roads. The tableau-representing various social and religious organisations, were following traditional Rath. Thousands of devotees were accompanying these Jhankies. Devotees were chanting slogans and singing Bhajans in favour of Lord Krishana. At various places women devotees outnumbered men while as large number of children also participated in the Shobha Yatra. ‘Drop all things and take refuge in me. One who sees me in every body, one who sees himself in everybody is the one who sees the truth. Pick up the arms and take on oppressors", was the message from a Jhanki which depicted Lord Krishana addressing Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukeshatra. Another tableau which was of Lord Krishana, as small child, distributing Maakhan (butter) among his friends, was giving the message of sharing everything with friends. Social equality was the clear message from the Jhanki depicting Lord Krishana receiving his poor friend Sudhama. Large number of devotees were seen lined up all across the route of the Shobha Yatra. Chowks of the city were highly decorated. Devotees were seen showering flower petals on those who were participating in the Shobha Yatra. Some people had also installed stalls enroute of the Yatra to distribute Parshad among the devotees. In the evening special lightening arrangements were made in the entire city to mark this auspicious occasion. Temples were specially decorated on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janamasthami. Prominent citizen also participated in the Shobha Yatra. |
