While the leaders of the state unit of the Congress are engaged in preventing the organisation from suffering an utter collapse in Jammu and Kashmir following the turmoil over the land row, the AICC leadership seems to have decided to be on the offensive by blaming the saffron brigade and the Sangarsh Samiti for having launched an agitation which was based on "falsehood and lies."AICC spokesperson,Jayanthi Natarajan has given an argument,which seems not only untenable but invalid,while substantiating her charge that the Samiti's agitation was based on felsehood and lies.What is that "precious" argument ?To her the agitation launched by the Samiti being based on falsehood and lies is proved by the fact that over five lakh pilgrims had visited the holy cave of Amarnath.Possibly either Natarajan did not know the reality or she was not properly briefed about the events that took place in Jammu and Kashmir since July 2.
Wihout reexamining these events one would like to ask Natarajan whether those who demanded revocation of the order under which 800 kanals of land were diverted to the Shrine Board or those who later agitated against the revocation of the order had ever directed the pilgrims not to proceed to the holy cave.In fact even during the thick of agitation over the land loss people provided many facilities to the pilgrims on their way to the holy cave.The spokesperson seems to have been rattled by the roar of the protesters against the Congress.It is under this confusion that Natarajan has thrown another howler.She says the Jammu and Kashmir Government,the Shrine Board and the people of the state helped in the peaceful pilgrimage.Yet another howler:she says the agitation is based on a non-issue and that is why it had no bearing on the yatra.She did not know that when several pilgrims were Killed in terrorist attacks in the past that too had no bearing on the yatra.She did not know when in the weather related calamity more than 120 yatris had died in Pahalagm and its adjoining areas several years ago it too had no bearing on the yatra.
Yet another howler from the Congress:it has described the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti and the Kashmiri separatists as the two faces of the same coin. Fortunately or unfortunately it has not disclosed of what denomination is this coin which carries the faces of separatists and the Samiti on it.Hitherto we were aware of the art of politicians in minting slogans.Nobody had the idea that the Congress has a mint which can produce a coin bearing the faces of separatistism and nationalism.
800 kanals of land had been diverted,not ransferred,not leased out nor sold,to the Amarnath Shrine Board for setting up tents for a period of two months.The Board had been asked to deposit over Rs.two crores with the Government for the diversion and another over Rs.1.92 crores for afforestation after the end of the pilgrimage.The Government,please Natatarajan, note it,headed by the Congress revoked the land order on the demand of the separatists. Is it a non-issue ?If the Jammuites launched an agitation against the revocation of the order is this stir based on lies and falsehood ?If Natarajan were trying to bring the congress in the state out of the morass she has done a great disservice to the organisation in the Jammu region which has been a stronghold of the Congress.If she wanted to display her talent in coining phrases and idioms she has done her job.But she should know it that sweet and delectable phrases and idioms do not strengthen the base of a political party. |
