NC appeals for preserving secular character of region

National Conference (NC) has appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace and communal harmony. In a statement issued here today NC leaders urged the people of the state to live in harmony and maintain brotherhood. Leaders of the party urged the state government to ensure that effective measures are taken to maintain communal harmony in the state. They condemned the incidents of Poonch / Mandi and appealed to the people of Poonch to uphold their traditional Hindu - Muslim - Sikh unity.
As per press release leaders urged the state government to provide protection to the minorities across the state and ensure that miscreants do not create communal tension in the state. They also urged the government to devise an effective mechanism to dispel the rumors being spread in the state and bring to book the rumor mongers. They said state is passing through a difficult phase and it is the responsibility of all the people of the state to be watchful and isolate elements who want to create communal frenzy irrespective of which community they belong to. Secular fabric of the state needs to be preserved at any cost and Jammu and Kashmir must emerge as an apostle of secularism and communal harmony.
NC also expressed its satisfaction over the three rounds of talks held between the state government and the Sangarsh Samiti and hoped that the talks will lead to an amicable and acceptable solution to the Shri Amarnath land row.
The joint statement was signed by Ajay Sadhotra, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, Javed Rana, Rachpal Singh, Surjeet Singh Slathia, and MLCs Tarlcohan Singh Wazir and Devender Singh Rana.
