Even on the auspicious festival of Krishna Janamashthami, people of Jammu refused to stay indoors as dozens of rallies and protests demonstration were taken in various parts of the city demanding restoration of 800 kanals of forest land at Baltal to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. No major incident of violence, arson or clashes with the security forces has been reported from any parts of Jammu district. Meanwhile, in Poonch, three more persons received severe injuries members of the a particular community engaged as the Village Defence Committee members opened fire from their official rifles at the members of other community. Additional deployment of the troops of CRPF has been made to the district while a Station House Officer and 13 other cops have been placed under suspension for the inability to handle the situation. Sources said three persons received bullet shots during a communal clash that occurred between two communities .They were rushed to district hospital where their treatment was going on. The clash occurred when some people set fire on the shops of Hindus. Hindu community people most of the members of Village Defence Community took their official weapons and fired on the group of Muslims community causing injuries to three persons. In order to tackle the situation additional two battalions of CRPF have been deployed which succeeded to control the situation. It is estimated that sixty shops and houses have been burnt since the eruption of clashes between the two communities. Curfew has been clamped in the entire district and the CRPF along with the other security forces are marching in the streets of the district. Situation in Jammu and its adjoining districts remained peaceful as the day curfew has been lifted and army removed in view of the improvement in the situation. Reports reaching here revealed that curfew has been completely lifted from Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, and Samba district, while in Kishtwar night curfew remained in force. Officials claimed that no untoward incident was reported from any part of the region today, while the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained unaffected. Curfew remained clamped for the second day in Poonch, while local administrations were holding deliberations with the heads of both the communities to restore peace. Situation was tense in the area though people remained confined to their homes in view of the strict curfew imposed by the police and distraction administration. "Heavy deployment of paramilitary personnel and police has been made in the entire town to avoid any untoward incident", a senior police officer said adding that the army also conducted flag march in the town, this morning. Meanwhile, Divisional commissioner Jammu Sudanshu Panday and Inspector General of Police K Rajendra conduct aerial survey of the entire Poonch district. The officials also held meetings with the district administration and ask them to bring the situation under control. |
