| Jaitley takes dig at govt for its `softness` on terror | | | New Delhi | Aug 25
Taking a dig at the government for its alleged softness on terror and pandering to demands of the Kashmiri separatists, BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley expressed apprehensions about its ability to keep the country intact. "The ability of this government to keep the country together is suspect," Jaitley said in his address to the Delhi Study Group, a BJP-affiliated organisation, here. He accused the government of avoiding a dialogue with Sri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS) for 38 days as "it was scared the separatists in the Kashmir valley would be antagonised". Jaitley said it was clear from the government's "fallacious" policies that it was not concerned about the legacy it would leave behind. He warned separatists and liberals toying with the idea of freedom for Kashmir, saying, "Those who are arguing 'if Kashmir wants to go, let it go' should remember that the age of redrawing political boundaries is over." He added that after the 9/11 attacks separatists are no longer heard anywhere. The BJP in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir accused the government of playing politics over the Amarnath land allotment issue. "There are two High Court judgements on the Amarnath issue. But the government does not want to follow the judgement fearing an adverse reaction in the valley," he said. Jaitley said the government should first implement the court order and then deal with the issues being raised in the Kashmir valley. Giving primacy to the demands of separatists was not the solution, he said. |
