End 4G ban in Jammu
10/22/2020 12:15:03 AM
Jammu has been without high speed internet for more than a year and it appears that the government is in no mood to restore the 4G internet services in the Union Territory.
The mobile internet was suspended in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019 when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided the erstwhile State into two union territories.
Since then 4G services continue to remain blocked. The 2G services were restored in J&K in January this year and after Supreme Court’s intervention 4G internet was restored in Jammu’s Udhampur and Kashmir’s Ganderbal districts in August this year.
People of Jammu have been demanding the restoration of high speed internet services vociferously. Recently netizens from Jammu region took to the twitter to highlight the plethora of hardships they are facing in absence of 4G internet. With more than 17000 tweets in an hour, Jammuites made #4GForJammu a top trend on twitter.
People of Jammu have genuine grudge as they find no reason for them being kept deprived of the 4G internet service.
After August 5, 2019, Jammu remained calm as no untoward incident was reported from any part of the division. People of Jammu are paying a heavy price for being clubbed with Kashmir. Jammuities are nationalist people and have never supported anti-national elements or any such activity. They have always stood by the country and have welcomed all the decisions that were taken for integrating J&K fully with the Union of India.
During the COVID-19 times when students in the other parts of the country were being imparted online education, students in Jammu region were struggling even to get connected due to slow internet speed.
On Wednesday Jammu and Kashmir administration once again ordered that barring two districts, Udhampur and Ganderbal, ban on 4G internet services will continue in all other districts of Jammu and Kashmir till November 12. Once again no attention has been paid towards the voices that are being raised in Jammu region seeking restoration of 4G internet services.
People of Jammu are up in arms against the local BJP leaders for not being able to convince their own government in the Centre to restore 4G internet service in J&K.
The local BJP leaders maintaining silence over this important issue has triggered outrage against them. People are wondering are they the same people whom they supported whole heartedly during the 2014 assembly elections. Most of the people in Jammu are regretting their choice and are eagerly waiting for the next assembly polls to be held top teach non-performers a lesson.
