| Congress divided between faith, politics | | | Sandeep Bhat Jammu | Aug 25
The Shri Amarnath Shrine land row is though awaiting a final resolution but its political fallout on the Congress –which earlier had to loose the government on this issue –is clearly evident as the local leaders are not only finding it tough to do a right posturing but are also moving in directions opposite to each other. Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and State Congress president Saif-ud-Din Soz are keeping away from the state leaving it to the second rung leaders to decide as per the prevailing situation. The main issue which is seeing the Congress clearly divided is whether or not to seek removal of the Governor NN Vohra. Right from the beginning, when Congress led minority government, revoked the land order, the state Congress seems to have got divided and different voices were seen emerging from different corners. Keeping their local constituency intact is the obvious reason which has the Congress into a spot. Initially, Congress had not expected such a response from Jammu people, but with the passage of time, they leaders of Congress based in Jammu started the heat of agitation and indirectly giving support to the sentiments of people of Jammu. The leaders waited a long time to lend their support to this agitation. On the condition of anonymity, a senior Congress leader said that if Congress party will not honour the sentiments of people here, they may face difficult time in the election ahead and added had party leaders especially ministers have resigned before revocation of order, they would have become the hero's overnight in Jammu. They didn't anticipate this response from Jammu. Vinod Sharma, secretary, PCC, while taking to EARLY TIMES said, that he is a Congressman, but at present, “I am supporting the agitation as it is an issue of faith”. Different leaders in Congress have different opinions regarding the issue which include removal of Governor, restoration of land etc. Former Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, while talking to partymen in Jammu other day said that those Congress leaders which are camping in New Delhi for demanding removing of Governor of the state is their own personal demand. Congress party does not demand recall or removal of Governor. Talking to EARLY TIMES, R.S. Chib, MLC and senior leader, said the removal of Vohra is a state Congress demand as it is linked to the issue of sentiments of the people. “It may be Mangat Ram's personal opinion, but we: Raman Bhalla, R.S. Chib, Arvinder Singh Micky, Manohar Lal Sharma, Gharu Ram beside MP Lal Singh and Madan Lal are demanding Governors removal”. Gulchain Singh Charak, former minister said that we respect the peoples sentiment, and when Jammu people who are in agitation under the banner of Sangarsh Samiti, are demanding Governors removed, we are also with them. We are not sabotaging the agitation and will continue our support to Sangarsh Samiti demand of restoration of land. He also criticized the statements of separatists and Kashmirs mainstream politicians which include Mehbooba Mufti should be brought to justice. When this correspondent tried to contact Mangat Ram Sharma, and Mula Ram on phone, they were not accessible. Even today, Sangarsh Samiti has asked people to boycott Mangat Ram, G.S. Charak and Mula Ram. |
