The power transformer, which was damaged in the third week of June and was sent to the BHEL, Jhansi, for repair,is expected to reach the Gladini grid station within next two days. It may take another 10 days for making it functional. Once the transformer was functional the power crisis in Jammu will further improve. Commissioner Power, R.K.Seli, today said that the second transformer, which was sent for repair to Jhansi, was expected to be installed at the Gladini grid station towards the end of next month. R.K.Seli said that power supply position had improved after the 155 MVA transformer, purchased from Patna, had been installed at the Gladini grid station nine days ago. In reply to a question he said after the fourth transformer was installed the capacity of the Gladini grid station would increase from 400 to 550 MVA.He said that once the capacity was enhanced there would be no power cuts in areas where electronic metres had been installed. As a result of damage to the two transformers a 12 to 15 hour power curtailment was introduced the districts of Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri.People suffered series of odds and the industrial unit holders too witnesed losses on account of fall in the production owing to power cuts. PDD engineers said that once the capacity of the grid station was rised to 550 MVA it could cover the risk of any damage that may take place in one or the other transformers in the future. Another senior engineer of the Power Development Department(PDD) said as a result of damage to the two transformers the power tariff revenue had registered a fall of 20 per cent because of prolonged power cuts. The PDD suffered losses when the power supply to the industrial units was also curtailed. |
