| We are truly secular: NC | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 26
Reacting to the statement of some organizations describing National Conference as non-secular party, the National Conference leaders in a joint statement have said that the vested interests who want to weaken the party through baseless propaganda forget that the people cannot be misled as they are well aware of the secular and democratic credentials of the party. Saying that NC has remained the torch bearer of secularism and democracy right from the day one of its inception, these leaders reiterated that the first and foremost objective of the party has been unity and peaceful co-existence of the people irrespective of their caste, creed colour or faith. It is unfortunate that some vested interests have now started a disinformation campaign against the NC these leaders said adding that they would never succeed in its nefarious designs. The party has called upon the people to beware of such people who intend to divide the people on sectarian lines. 'Jammu region has a glorious past of secularism' the NC leaders expressed confidence that people of Jammu shall frustrate the designs of those people who are making all out efforts to weaken secular fiber of the region. The NC leaders have also appealed to the Government to hold the next round of negotiations with the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti, at an earliest, without wasting any time so as to reach to an early, amicable and respectful solution of the present crisis. Referring to the comments of those who are talking that National Conference is silent about the problems of the people of Poonch / Kishtwar, the NC leaders said they are not correct and said it is better they should go through the press reports issued in this regard from time to time. |
