The BJP leadership has suggested to the Government to stop repressive measures in case it wants to settle the land row with the leaders of the Sangarsh Samiti. Senior BJP leader, Dr Nirmal Singh today said, after touring various areas in the periphery of the city that people were enraged over the way police and RAF personnel inflicted injuries to scores of civilians who were protesting peacefully yesterday when they resorted to heavy lathi charge and tear gas shelling.
In reply to a question Nirmal Singh said "you cannot expect talks to succeed when you break the heads of protesters". He said he was hopeful that the four member panel constituted by the Governor will be able to resolve the land row during another round of talks with coordination committee constituted by the Sangarsh Samiti.
Asked when the next round of talks shall take place, the BJP leader said "hopefully the talks will take place in Jammu tomorrow". He said the centre has to find a solution otherwise the situation will worsen in Jammu region.
In reply to another question Nirmal Singh said even if the next round of talks take place tomorrow the scheduled rally, proposed by the Samiti at the Parade grounds will not be cancelled. The agitation will continue till "the demand of the people of the Jammu region was conceded,” he added.
