There was a time when the agitation for restoration of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board appeared nearly fizzling out but it took a sudden turn becoming a peoples’ movement and now gaining the strength which now refuses to die –it was Kuldeep Kumar Verma who offered supreme sacrifice of life and gave a new direction and impetus to the agitation.
One month and dew days have passed since Kuldeep died. With the passage of every day the agitation is gaining further ground and at the same speed Kuldeep’s family –his wife, a daughter and son –are going into oblivious along with their worries and miseries.
Nobody could gauge what exactly Kuldeep Verma had perceived at the time of offering sacrifice of his life, which drastically transformed the slowed down agitation into an ever stronger one which resulted into over month long bandh not only in Jammu district but entire Jammu region and attracted the attention of Union Government.
But, strangely the family of that person, whose posters and portraits were carried by several people to energize the struggle, is lying in pathetic and shattered position because their bread-earner made sacrifice.
The only substantial monetary support came from the side of State Government, which offered a sum of Rs one lakh to the family as a relief, apart from this, Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) offered a sum of Rs 50,000 to the family. It means the family is having a total relief amount of Rs 1.5 lakh in its kitty for its life-long sustenance.
His wife, Shilpi Verma, who had reportedly got an offer from State Police Department to join it as a SPO which she turned down immediately, is currently under shambled state of mind and really confused over the future of her family.
Number of delegations met her during the past one month and only expressed lip sympathies with the aggrieved family. Practically, the family is in the need of adequate monetary support to settle down their lives, which suffered heavily due to strong tremor of Kuldeep's death.
Surprisingly, the whole of agitation is getting more and stronger with each passing day, which happened only after Kuldeep's sacrifice, but, life seems to be at grinding halt for martyr's (people called him after he committed suicide) family, as neither Shilpi got a
respectable job nor adequate relief was provided by the family.
Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS), which is spearheading the
ongoing agitation in Jammu, has even raising "Shaheed Fund" along with "Agitation Fund" for furtherance of its struggle. But, it is not sure as to when the Samiti leaders are going to offer the relief amount to Kuldeep's family.
Shilpi has demanding a respectable job in some of the Government department, the demand which is not sure to be taken seriously by the authorities but, one thing which can be done by the Jammuites i.e. they can contribute enough of monetary support for life long sustenance of Kuldeep's family. |
