• Three ultras reported sneaked in City • Tension on IB, LoC in Jammu, Poonch • Bomb scare rocks GMC, forces in tizzy
Always in search of appropriate opportunity and situation the adversary on the other side of divide desperate to carry out its violent designs today shocked the security set-up by breaching the International Border and Line of Control at various stretches in Jammu and Kashmir. What has added more to the worries of the security agencies, already in a tight spot due to the internal disturbance, is the confirmed report that three to four ultras have managed to cross in the International Border in Jammu sector and may have sneaked in the Winter Capital City to carry out incidents of violence. Jammu City and its adjoining areas have been put on a state of high alert even as the security forces have got into an active gear to track down the militants. Reports said that while three to four militants have definitely made their way to Jammu, more number of them may also have sneaked in other parts of region, particularly in Poonch. In another development, a bomb scare rocked the Government Medical College here sending the security forces and Police in a tizzy. Twice in six hours, Pakistan violated ceasefire agreement and opened fire on BSF post in Sabzian, Poonch and also provided cover to the infiltrators in Kanachak area of Akhnoor in the wee hours of Tuesday. "Four BSF jawans were injured in firing by Pakistan forces along LoC in Sabzian area of Poonch district, where its post came under firing from across the border this morning," top BSF officials said. In another incident, a group of armed militants on Tuesday sneaked into the Indian territory, following which a massive operation has been launched by the security forces to track them down. "A group of three to four militants have infiltrated into the state through Kanachak border after cutting the fence and under the cover of firing from the Pakistan side between 12.15 and 1.45 a,m. Deputy Inspector General BSF Jammu frontier GS Virk said that intermitent fire from across the International border in Kanachak sector continued for over one and half hour. He said at least a group of 20-25 armed militants or Pakistani rangers provided cover fire to infiltrators in Kanachak sector of Akhnoor to facilitae infiltration. BSF authorities suspect a group of 3-4 infiltrators after cutting the fence between two surveillance posts managed to enter in to the Indian Territory taking advantage of the heavy fire. "I cannot confirm whether Pakistani rangers provided cover fire or a group of armed militants did the job, but I can confirm that a group of 20-25 people took positions on the obstructive bundh situated close to the barbed wire fence and opened unprovoked fire," GS Virk said after a spot visit to the Kanachak area in Akhnoor sector. The top BSF official also attributed sudden rise in incidents of infiltration and frequent breach of ceasefire violation from the Pakistani side due to internal situation in Pakistan. "The situation in Pakistan is not normal and certain forces in Pakistan want to derail the peace process between the two neighbouring countries", he added. Immediately after the infiltration bid was attempted we alerted army and state police to strengthen their night patrols and activate nakas to prevent any untoward incident. In the second week of May 2008 a similar infiltration bid was attempted by militants in Samba sector. Meanwhile, panic gripped in the GMC hospital when a rumour of bomb in the hospital spread. Medical staff rushed out of the hospital but amazingly patients in the hospital did not inform the incident. They were seen inquiring to each other. The hospital turned into a police castle in a few minutes. Bomb disposal squad and sniper dogs were pressed into service. The search operation continued for about three hours but no bomb was found. CMO of the hospital Kanchan Anand received phone call at about five in the evening by an unknown person in which he threatened her that a bomb had been placed in the hospital and they had few minutes to save patients as well as administration. On hearing the call she contacted to the Medical Superintendent who narrated the whole incident to the police. On having information a police team led by SDPO Bakshi Nagar RK Chalotra immediately rushed to the spot with cops who spread in the hospital for search. After twenty minutes a bomb disposed squad along with sniper dogs were pressed into service. The search operation was continued for about two hours. Later during investigation it was known that the call was given by internal person as no external call was tapped in the GMC exchange during that particular time. Speaking to media persons a senior police officer said that the way Jammuites and Kashmiri were struggling third person might take advantage to this opportune time as majority of the police force were being engaged to bear the wrath of the protestors in spite of keeping watch on the untoward incident likely to exist as four militants infiltrated from Kanachak area with weapons to cash the turmoil. The matter was being investigated by the police till last reports came in. |
