| Commando training for J&K soldiers | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 27
Security forces are working hard to maintain law and order in Jammu and Kashmir but Tuesday's infiltration from the international border near Jammu is a grim reminder that terrorists will now attempt to cross through it. The army too is preparing. Hundreds of soldiers are being imparted commandos training precisely to counter such infiltration attempts. More than 80 soldiers of the Jammu based 26 division of the Indian army have been through commando training. The two-week drill can make all the difference between the success and failure of a counter terrorism operation. "At the end of the training we ensure that they are mentally and physically tough to handle any kind of situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir. Their training standard is as good a para commando's. They can react very fast," said Colonel SK Shahi, 26 Division, Jammu. With infiltration on the rise and state elections around the corner intelligence inputs about the level of terrorist activities are quite disturbing. " They have not been successful on the LoC and they are now trying on the international border and it is the endeavour of the Indian army to ensure that we do not allow this thing to happen," said Major General D L Chowdhary, 26 Division Jammu. In the last two years, more than a thousand soldiers have been trained. Senior Army officers believe that since the LoC is becoming more difficult to breach, militants are trying to use infiltration routes along the international border. In a real situation there is a thin margin between life and death, success and failure. But the soldiers have been trained to react effectively in a very little time and with elections around the corner their services will surely be required in Jammu and Kashmir. |
