| Protect minority places in Jammu region, MFJ to government | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 27
Condemning the attempts to foment communal violence in Jammu region, Muslim Federation Jammu (MFJ), an organisation advocating cause of Muslim population in the region, today appealed to the majority community to protect minorities in their areas. "We condemn the attempts being made by some vested interests to trigger communal violence in Poonch and Kishtwar districts. These are most unfortunate incidents," MFJ President Abdul Majeed told reporters here. "We appeal the majority community to protect minorities in their areas in Muslim majority Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu region," he said. The members of both the communities in Kishtwar and Poonch district should isolate those elements who have disturbed an age-old tradition of communal harmony and brotherhood in the province, he added. MFJ also condemned the administration for its inefficiency in taking preventive steps to stop the communal clashes and demanded judicial probe into the incident. Meanwhile, a Delhi-based Human rights organisation, People's Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR) today demanded immediate lifting of the curfew in Kashmir. "We demand immediate lifting of curfew. The situation of the peaceful expression of people's demands be utilized to initiate a political dialogue. The political establishment is duty-bound to do so when people in such large numbers are voicing these demands," a statement issued by the PUDR said. The PUDR said curfew was imposed in the valley as a means of creating confrontation and preventing people from assembling in large numbers. |
