| Operation on, details so far | | | • Militants, three in number, believed to have stayed at night in Kot Bhalwal, perhaps they were not well aware of routes and not specific about their target. • Were spotted at 5:15 AM in village Lalyal near Kanachak • Overpowered an auto driver Dharam Paul and took away his red coloured three wheeler • Army naka stopped them at Mahir Mandir in Kanachak at 5:30; they fired at the troops injuring two of them. Injured have been identified as Yash Paul and Hav Netar Singh. • Reached Mishriwala at around 5:50, by this time alert about red auto had been sounded • Reached Domana a little later, Army troops spotted and stopped; ultras fired at troops injuring two more. One of the injured soldier has been identified as Bal Pandaan. • Again reached, Raipur, Kot Bhalwal. Dropped the red autorikshaw and intercepted another white coloured auto that time being driven by one Vijay Kumar an Army personnel on leave • Sat with Vijay Kumar for a small distance, he was kept on gun point. On the way shot at two labourers at 6:13 AM and then left for Chinore. Injured labourers have been identified as Uttam Acharya and Radha Bhellaw • Reached Chinore at 6:22 AM; kept driving on haphazardly, on the way spotted one Subedar (retd) Nasib Singh who was going to fetch milk. He was shot at and killed. • A little later, in the same area, they intercepted one Sabid Hussain, he was shot at and killed. • Asked Vijay Kumar about where the way was leading. Before he could tell anything, he was shot at, killed and left in a pool of blood in his auto rikshaw near residence of one Billo Ram where they took the family hostage. • Billo Ram was in the GMC Hospital since last night following a snake bite. They took refuge in his house and made six members of family and one tutor hostage. • Chasing after the first report, Army and Police reached the residence of Billo Ram in Chinore at 6:32 AM and thus began the still continuing encounter. • At around 9AM, security forces confirmed having killed one of the militants. Disputing these claims, neighbours say this may have been the tutor who was inside Billo Ram’s house and militants may have been killed him after forcibly dressing him in camouflage. • Late in the afternoon, hostage children spoke over phone to neighbours urging the security forces not to fire any more as they said that militants were using them as human shields. This made the forces to change their strategy. • Instead of firing, security forces started shelling the house with tear gas. One of the ultra jumped out firing indiscriminately. Forces hit him and he was killed. • Operation was halted late in the night to work out new strategy as safety of the house inmates was paramount before the security forces.
