| BJP, Congress speak in sync | | | Shimla | Aug 28
When a resolution to the Shri Amarnath Shrine land controversy is slightly seen on the horizon, two main political parties –the BJP and the Congress –have jumped into fray to put the final stamp on demands of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti. While BJP has all along been supporting the Samiti demand, but of late the party had slowed down its campaign after eruption of tension in Kashmir Valley. The Congress, after reading the mind of UPA government is now taking final shots asking the Governor to restore land to the Shrine Board. The Jammu and Kashmir government should give back the controversial piece of land to the Amarnath shrine board whose order it had revoked on July 1, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Rajnath Singh said in Shimla today.” The state government will have to accept the demand of the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti that is demanding restoration of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board,” he told reporters here. On the ongoing violence in Jammu and Kashmir over the land row, the BJP chief said the first step was to restore peace and normalcy in the state. He said communalisation of the situation should be prevented as this would have an adverse impact on the country’s secular fabric. He also said the state government had “succumbed to pressure from secessionists”. He launched a scathing attack on the Congress led-United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre over rising inflation. Meanwhile the Congress has said that it is hopeful of positive outcome in land row favouring Shri Amarnath Shrine Board after discussing the issue with top brass of congress at centre which included UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Kashmir affairs committee. Divulging the developments of meeting with congress top brass at New Delhi, Choudhary Lal Singh along with other party men of state congress during a press conference here on Thursday said that they had briefed central leadership of congress about the mass agitation in Jammu and their demands of restoration of land to SASB and recalling of governor from the state. The congress high command in New Delhi has given a patient hearing to their demands and assured for the affirmative solution to the land row which should be acceptable to the people of Jammu, he said. Holding PDP and NC responsible of prevailing crisis, he said that it was because of Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah that the situation in state got worsens and alleged these leaders for enacting anti-national propaganda. |
