| Mehbooba is bold but too cold to public | | | Nirbhay Jammual
During a discussion on the Kashmir turmoil on a TV news channel the PDP Chief, Mehbooba Mufti, announced that she will be the first woman to face the bullet if the Article 370 was scrapped.She has not stopped there.She has threatened to join the movement for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.The 800 kanals of land at Baltal,which does not fall in her Assembly or Lok Sabha constituency,are so dear to her that she is opposed to any plan of giving this land to the Shrine Board even for a temporary period of two to three months.Really a bold statement from a bold woman politician.She is really bold enough to admit in public that she has visited the families of those militants who were killed in the operation launched by the security forces.Why ? She believes that she was supposed to give solace to the bereaved families whose members were not militants.
She is courageous and highly outspoken.By shedding a tear or two in the houses of the bereaved families she wants people to know that she had visited bereaved families in Wandhama,Pachnari and other places where Hindus had fallen to the bullets of militants.This speaks volumes of her neutrality and impartiality.She declared PDP's withdrawal of support to the Congress led Government because it had diverted 800 kanals of land to the Shrine Board.Her party leaders had opposed the land diversion,even after the ministers belonging to the PDP had approved the diversion plan,on the plea that the Board was setting up what they called Amarnath Nagar where Hindus were to be settled.Once that was done it could,according to the PDP leaders,alter the demographic character of the muslim dominated valley.Neither Mehbooba nor her party leaders had ever bothered to think whether people from the plains could live on over 12000 feet high mountain slopes which lie buried under nine feet deep snow for over eight months.
But Mehbooba had no courage to speak in public that she had favoured the PDP pullout from the Government to tame Ghulam Nabi Azad.She wanted either Azad to reseek PDP's support after assuring the PDP leadership of playing a second fiddle to it or face the disdvantage of taking the congress to the poll battle without the backing of the Government.Azad set his head high and disappointed the PDP leadership.Of late Mehbooba has started blaming Azad for the ongoing turmol because he had not explained the rationale behind the diversion of land to the Board. Was it not the duty of the PDP,which shared power with the Congress,to remove fears and misgivings among people on the diversion issue ?Was it her duty to mislead the people in Kashmir over the land diversion ?And had the PDP not misled the Kashmiris they would not have fallen prey to the propaganda launched by the separatists.PDP leadership showed the courage in misleading people in Kashmir.And Mehbooba displays her courage and boldness while defending whatever she and her party had done in projecting the land diversion as an act of Indian cultural aggression.She believes she is right.She believes all others,including her party leaders, are wrong and that is the reason she has debarred PDP office bearers from opening their mouth on any political issue. |
