| Jammu Muslims appeal for peace | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 29
For ensuring peace and maintenance of communal harmony and brotherhood in Jammu region, the Jammu United Front today organized a meeting which was attended by eminent personalities of the city including Sangarsh Samiti and Muslim Federation. Prominent among those who participated in the meeting were Dr Jatinder Singh, prominent diabetologist and spokesperson of Sangarsh Samiti, Rashid Ahmed Co-coordinator Muslim Federation, Prof. Varinder Gupta, Farooq Ahmed Tak, Suhail Kazmi, Veena Handa, B S Slathia president Bar Council, Jaffery, Satbir Singh, Sarla Kohli, Maj. H S Sahni and Ruchi Chauhan Mir. Addressing the meeting, Dr Jatinder Singh expressed the importance of truthfulness in this movement and to ensure that the energy of the youth, which has come to the forefront during this agitation, must not be allowed to be corrupted at any cost. He also stressed that the youth must come forward to correct the mistakes committed by the elders. He also cautioned the people to carve a way for a brighter and stronger Jammu and the country as a whole. He congratulated Deepak Handa and the youth in general in coming forward in highlighting the cause of the people of Jammu. Rashid Ahmed from the Muslim Federation pointed out that there were some divisive elements in the society and the movement which needed to be curbed at all costs. Prof Gupta in his address highlighted the discrimination against the people of Jammu for the last 61 years, and also urged the people to become Jammuties first and the religious allegiance to come in after that, while Veena Handa impressed the need for maintaining unity among all the regions of the state and also urged all the people to leave aside their differences and present themselves as the citizens of the state, citizens of India and above all to be global citizens. Maj. Sahni stressed the need to respect the men in Uniform and help them to do their duties, while Jaffery laid stress on maintaining the age old tradition of communal harmony. Rashid, who also spoke on the occasion, said that ‘religions were man made’ and the universal brotherhood was of prime importance. The meeting concluded with vote of thanks presented by the president of Jammu United Front. |
