Bhim threatens to move SC for contempt against govt

Prof. Bhim Singh, chairman of JKNPP and member, National Integration Council (NIC) has served a notice to the J&K government for the deliberately defying the Supreme Court order “to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that even during the curfew, appropriate steps are taken to enable the patients in need of medical attention to reach hospital and nursing homes may be required”. This order was passed by a divisional bench of the Supreme Court on July 4, 2008 on a writ petition of the Prof. Bhim Singh seeking direction to provide medical aid and the care to the patients in the state during the curfew hours.
Singh said that administration has deliberately chosen to defy this direction through out the state particularly the provincial governments in Srinagar, Poonch, Kishtwar, Kathua, Kupwara, Ananatnag, Budgam, Udhampur, and other areas. He accused the state administration particularly the provincial governments in Srinagar and in Jammu to deliberately denying medical aid and facilities to the patients during the curfew hours. Prof. Bhim Singh this morning had to ring Raj Bhawan and then Superindent of police, Srinagar, control room from Delhi to arrange ambulance for the medical treatment for a two month old child in down town. Similarly, the police control room at the districts headquarters under the curfew have no information about the Supreme Court directions to this effect, he added.
Singh asked the administration to announce through radio and electronic media about the direction of the supreme court so that the people may contact the police control rooms in the respective districts for the medical attention, and added that several people have died in the curfew bound cities of Jammu and Srinagar for the want of medicines. He threatened to move a contempt application against the director General of police, two divisional commissioners and all the advisors if they do not respond to this notice immediately, the release added.
