Speak The Truth
11/8/2020 11:14:42 PM

Kashmir centric Peoples Democratic Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) has finally fallen in the line and decided to contest the forthcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The PAGD comprises seven Valley based parties. It’s headed by National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah, while Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti is the vice-president of the amalgam.
When the PAGD was formed its leaders had stated that they won’t take part in any electoral process till J&K gets its special status back.
However, these parties have taken a U-turn and have decided to be a part of the process. In a way it’s a welcome development and it’s an indication that these parties have accepted the change in J&K’s status-quo.
It’s high time for the Kashmir centric parties to give up their rhetoric and start telling the truth to the people that the political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir has changed completely and nationalism is the way forward.
These parties cannot keep on taking people for a ride by selling dreams to them. They have sold enough illusions and they have to tell the masses that the slogans which they had raised in the past were just meant for grabbing power.
After Centre’s August 5, 2019 decision, all the confusions have been cleared. J&K’s special stands abrogated and it has been turned into a union territory. J&K’s complete merger with the Union of India has made it clear that Kashmir is no issue and Pakistan has no role to play in it.
Now, Kashmir centric parties have taken a call to participate in the maiden elections in J&K after the abrogation of Article 370. They need to focus on the issues which fall within their domain rather than instigating the people and telling them that they will get everything back.
The DDC elections are just a beginning of the politics in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
These polls will set the tone and tenor for the bigger elections which are likely to be held after the delimitation process is completed.
The Kashmir centric parties have put up a united front to fight the DDC elections as they have understood they don’t stand anywhere and individually they won’t be able to make any impact on the ground.
