| BJP concerned over delay | | | New Delhi | Aug 29
The BJP today expressed concern over the delay by the Jammu and Kashmir Governor's panel on holding talks with the Sri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti for arriving at an amicable solution to the Shrine Board land transfer issue. "The first meeting between the Governor's panel and representatives of SAYSS was held on Saturday. They parted with the understanding that they will meet again in two-three days. But till today there is no progress. Now it is becoming a little intriguing," BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley told reporters. "This is an issue which can easily be resolved, ...But there is no urgency in the government to solve the issue. This is raising suspicions that the state administration and government are developing cold feet," he said. Questioning this "go-slow", Jaitley wondered if this was being done at the behest of somebody at the Centre. "What does the government get out of this (delay)?" he asked. Jaitley said solving the Amarnath agitation would help in pulling out the army from the civilian areas and deploying them at the Line of Control "where they have an important role particularly after what happened a few days ago." He was referring to cases of infiltration across the LoC. He suggested that the High Court order, which states that the forest land should be allocated to Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) temporarily for the duration of the yatra, is a viable solution. This was stated in a letter written by senior BJP leader L K Advani to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The latter, in his reply, has said that the High Court order has not been flouted. The Governor's panel has maintained, according to reports, that it has not been able to meet SAYSS as one of its members is indisposed. |
