Dogra Sangathan accuses Govt of sitting over driving license scam
11/17/2020 10:37:14 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 17: Dogra Sangathan Jammu has sought attention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha towards the messy state of affairs in the state transport department where officials were sitting over the probe into a driving license scandal in order to give undue advantage to the accused.
In a press conference here today, president of the Sangathan Amit Kapoor said that the transport department was shielding its officials involved into a big scam of converting driving licenses from LMV to Heavy without following due procedure and tempering with the official data. Instead of taking action against the accused official, he was being given important assignment at the Transport Commissioner Office, he said.
Elaborating further, Kapoor said, "In July 2019 State Vigilance Organisation registered an FIR No 17/2019 under section 5 (1) R/W 5(2) of JK PC Act wherein it was alleged that some officials of the transport department were issuing driving license through brokers against huge amount of money without following the due norms. It was also established that Light Motor Vehicle Licenses were also being converted to Heavy Vehicle by the accused officials in lieu of illegal gratification", he said. He added that the Vigilance Organisation started a probe during which it was ascertained that the officials at the helm of affairs even forged data and endorsed a driving license in backdate in order to give undue advantage to the former agent at RTO Office Jammu who had applied against a government post with SSRB.
The VO in its preliminary investigation ascertained that one official, Rajesh Jamwal, Junior Assistant, who was incharge of license section tempered the official record. "It was surfaced during the probe that modus operindi in this particular case appear to be a routine affair in the process adopted by the Regional Transport Office Jammu".
