| Allotment of land to Shrine Board widely hailed | | ‘Victory just a beginning’, say various organizations | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 31
The agreement reached between the Governor’s 4-member panel headed by Dr. S S Bloria and the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti on the Shrine Board land row has been widely hailed by several organizations describing it as a victory of’ nationalistic forces. The Bar Association at an emergent meeting held under the chairmanship of its president B S Slathia has termed the agreement as a psychological victory of nationalistic forces and vindication of honour of the people of Jammu region. Welcoming the first phase of victory of the Jammuties in allotment of land to the SASB, various Trade Organizations, connected with tourism and pilgrimage, have exhorted the nationalist and patriotic people of Jammu to continue their struggle against the hegemony of the Kashmiri centric politicians who have been all along discriminating the people of Jammu. The trade bodies have also strongly condemned the uncalled for imposition of curfew under the pretext of alert against some terrorists having infiltrated into Jammu city. The imposition of curfew in Jammu and other districts of the region were just to sabotage the mammoth victory rally proposed for today, the trade bodies added. A joint meeting of the AJHLA held under the chairmanship of Inderjeet Khajuria demanded due compensation and relief to the traders who suffered heavy losses during the two month long agitation in Jammu. Describing the allotment of land to the SASB as ‘victory of people’ of Jammu, Satwant Kour Dogra, and a prominent leader from Samba has congratulated the people and the Sangarsh Samiti. While terming the victory as just the beginning, she said the people to learn to agitate, protest, organize and fight for their rights and stressed that the second phase of the agitation would end discrimination and restoration of equality between Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has hailed the decision of the government regarding allotment of land to SASB. Hailing the agreement reached between the Government and the Sangarsh Samiti paying way for restoration of peace and normalcy in the temple city, the PCC has hoped that it would serve the broader interests of the unity, integrity and religious harmony in the state. It has also complimented the people of Jammu region for maintaining communal amity and mutual brotherhood. The PCC has also expressed gratitude of the Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson for their intervention in getting the land row resolved amicably as per the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus. Mangat Ram Sharma former minister and veteran Congress leader while hailing the decision reached between the Government and the Sangarsh Samiti over the land row has complimented the people of Jammu region for maintaining communal amity and brotherhood. He also expressed his gratitude of the PM and Sonia Gandhi, PCC Chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and former CM Ghulam Nabi Azad for their role in finding an amicable resolution of the land row. Welcoming the agreement regarding restoration of 800 kanals of land at Baltal to the Amarnath Shrine Board, Madan Lal Sharma, Member Parliament, has thanked PM and AICC Chief for taking positive and constructive steps for reaching an agreement on the land issue. He has also lauded the collective efforts of the people of Jammu region for getting the matter resolved amicably. He impressed upon the people to be conscious of their rights in future and for other pending issues concerning Jammu region. He also demanded grant of adequate compensation from the government to all sections of society who suffered heavy losses during the two month long agitation. JKPCC Legal and Human Rights Cell while hailing the agreement on allotment of land to the Shrine Board has congratulated the people in general and Sangarsh Samiti in particular for their struggle in getting the land row resolved amicably. Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh at a meeting held under the chairmanship of its senior union leader L R Singh has congratulated Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti for spearheading a successful agitation culminating restoration of land to the Shrine Board. Peoples Revolutionary Movement has described the agreement between Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti and the Jammu and Kashmir Government as the victory of forces of truth and justice over the force of intolerance, exclusion and hatred in Kashmir. PRM president Rajinder Jamwal in a statement issued here has congratulated the people of Jammu over the historic achievement. He said that people should not construe it as an end to their struggle against political hegemony of a particular section of Kashmiri Muslims. He said that they should remain prepared to launch a bigger battle for getting their right full share in the state and nothing less than re-organization of state would settle their quest for equality and justice. Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha in an emergent meeting held under the chairmanship of Romesh Chander Gupta has expressed its great satisfaction over the resolution of SASB land row which was hanging fire for the last more than two months. The Sabha while congratulating SAYSS for taking the agitation to its logical conclusion has also saluted the people of Jammu region for extending wholehearted support in making the agitation a grand success. ‘The Sabha in a handout said that the biggest achievement of this struggle is that it has set a wonderful example of true secularism and brotherhood for the whole country and brought Jammu on the international map’. Awami Jan Shakti Party at a meeting presided over by its President Sanjeev Manmotra while hailing the decision has demanded grant of three months’ free ration to the people living below the poverty line. Senior Congress leaders including Ch. Lal Singh, MP, R S Chib, MLC, Arvinder Singh Micky deputy chairman Legislative Council, Raman Bhalla, Ch. Gharu Ram, G L Chalotra, Yogesh Sawhney, Babu Singh, Suman Bhagat, Sham Lal Sharma and Manohar Singh at a meeting took stock of the latest political situation in the state in general and Jammu region in particular. Referring to the agreement signed between the government and the Sangarsh Samiti on allotment of 800 kanals of land to Shrine Board, these congress leaders described it ‘as victory of the people of Jammu’. They also congratulated all those who were leading the agitation under the banner of SAYSS. The meeting also paid tributes to those who sacrificed their lives during the two month long agitation and hoped that the points raised by the Sangarsh Samiti during its meeting with the Governor’s panel would be implemented at the earliest. The congress leaders also expressed their gratitude to Sonia Gandhi UPA Chairperson and Dr. Manmohan Singh Prime Minister for understand the ‘ground situation’ and acceding to the demand of the people of Jammu. |
