Jammu | Aug 31

Of late the rate of ingress from across the LOC has gone up.According to official sources, groups of heavily armed militants had been making series of infiltration bids from across Poonch,Rajouri,Keran,Macchel,Kupwara and Tangdhar sectors.
Senior police functionaries, while confirming rise in the level of infiltration from across the LOC said that during the last one month more than 12 ingress bids were foiled by the Indian border guards. They said despite strict vigil and installation of sophisticated gadgets, including sensors, for monitoring the movement of militants from across the border between 50 and 75 militants have managed to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir. One senior police officer said that since May 2008 the 187 km long International Border(IB) in Jammu sector has been selected by the militants and their guides for infiltration. and during the last three months more than six ingress bids were made in which small groups of militants succeeded in infiltrating into the Akhnoor and Samba sectors.Though all the six infiltrators were killed in operations launched by the security forces in Samba and in Jammu the slain mlitants had killed more than 16 people, including five security
personnel before they fell to the bullets of the police and the Army.
Reports received by the intelligence agencies revealed that several hundred rebel groups have been camping on the launching pads across the LOC and the IB in recent weeks for the purpose of pushing them into Jammu and Kashmir. These groups of militants had been camping across Macchel,Tangdhar,Poonch,Rajouri,Samba and Akhnoor sectors.Smaller groups, camping across Uri and Gulmarg sectors, were waiting for an opportunity to sneak into the Kashmir valley.
According to these reports, agencies across the border were trying to push into Jammu and Kashmir as many militants as possible within the next two months because they knew that from November onwards the border routes may get buried under deep snow.Police sources said that agencies across the LOC were trying to help the militants, operating in Jammu and Kashmir,in increasing their man and machine power which could be used during the Assembly election whenever it is held in the state during the next three to five months.
