The Government today agreed in principle to amend Rule 28 of the Jammu and Kashmir Value Added Tax Rules, extending the date of filing of returns by dealers not exceeding 60 days from the due date in the wake of extraordinary circumstances. It may be recalled that the Government had recently extended the date for filing the returns for the first quarter of the current financial year up to August 31. According to an official Spokesman, the Government has decided to extend the date of filing of returns by the dealers for the first quarter of the year 2008-09 by a period of further 30 days in view of the prevailing situation. Consequally, the dealers can file their returns by September 30. The Spokesman said that the Governor, N N Vohra, took the decision to extend the dates in view of the difficulties being faced by the members of the Chambers of Industries and Commerce of Jammu and Kashmir in the context of the prevailing situation across the State. |
