| Bishnah Municipal Committee still headless, case pending in Tribunal | | | GOVIND CHOUHAN Bishnah / July 8, 2006 All the public works in the Bishnah town are on a stand still from the last four months, as the Municipal Committee has failed to elect its President and lying headless. The people of the area are extremely unhappy with this deadlock over the President’s election due to the unhealthy politics played by some of the elected representatives. The elections for Bishnah Municipal Committee (BMC) were held on Feb’2005 after a fairly long period. During those days, people of the area were extremely happy, as they were getting optimistic about the development of their area with the formation of local body. But, those joyous days were short lived as no confidence motion was passed by some of the committee members in Apr’2006 and dislodged the president from the past and not been able to elect its new president so far. Bishnah Municipal Committee is constituted of 13 wards, out of which Congress grabbed 7, BJP 2, PDP 1 and independents managed to secure 3 wards in last year’s BMC election. Among those who got elected on Congress ticket were Ajay Atri (ward no.5), Ashok Sharma (ward no.8), Suraj Prakash (ward no.11), Kamlesh Kumari (ward no.7), Meena Kumari (ward no.9), Chanchla Sharma (ward no.13), Sat Paul (ward no.1) and those from BJP were Sanjeev Kumar (ward no.10), Rakesh Kumar (ward no.12) and the lone PDP member was Kuldeep Gupta (ward no.2) and the independents were Dev Raj, Banarasi Lal and Anuradha from ward no.4, 6 and 3 respectively. After the elections congress emerged out as majority winner and its elected member Ajay Atri was elected as the president of the BMC. One year passed off smoothly, but soon after Sat Paul of Congress switched over his loyalty, joined hands with opposition members and brought No-Confidence motion against the president and demanded re election for the top post. Director, Local Bodies declared 21 Apr for the election of president and Dev Raj was declared as working president till the election of new president. But, due to some controversy even he couldn’t assume his charge. Meanwhile, before the election, which was slated for 21’Apr, one of the BJP member Sanjeev Kumar changed his court and went towards the Congress side. And the whole drama reached towards its climax on 21 Apr when, the stay on the election process was managed by some of independents through Tribunal Court. Since then, every thing is at stand still and the members are now busy in court processes. Meanwhile, Executive Officer (E.O) is looking after the affairs of committee in the absence of President. According to sources, 15-20 lakh rupees were issued last year for the development works in Bishnah. It rather, appears to be very surprising that the chair of Municipal Committee President is lying vacant in an area called out to be a hub of regional politics.
