The Panthers Party and the BJP have decided to renew their pre-poll campaign as the two-month long turmoil in the Jammu region had ended with the settlement of the SASB land row.
General Secretary Panthers Party, Harsh Dev Singh, today said "we need a week's breathing time for gearing up for the pre-poll campaign". He said the Panthers Party has already identified party candidates for about 20 seats in the Jammu region and within next fortnight candidates for another 10 seats will be selected.
In reply to a question, he said, the main issue which the Panthers Party will rake up during the pre-poll campaign will be delay in the setting up delimitation commission. He said that the first phase of the agitation launched by the Sangarsh Samiti has reached to its logical conclusion and "we have to start another phase by demanding reorganization and addition of the Assembly constituencies."
Senior BJP leader, Dr Nirmal Singh, said that within next few days the BJP will restart its pre-poll campaign. He too endorsed Harsh Dev's views on the need for setting up delimitation commission. He said "we shall awaken the people in the Jammu region, during the pre-poll campaign about the injustice having been meted out to them by having allotted only 37 constituencies against 46 in the Kashmir valley when the Jammu region had more area and population."
He said the demand for fresh delimitation of Assembly constituencies will be coupled with the demand for equal devolution of development funds. |
