| Jugal for speedy completion of rural development schemes | | | SRINAGAR, September 08- Work is apace on the construction of Model villages under Prime Ministers Reconstruction Programme in the state and most of the works taken up in these villages are nearing completion. This was stated in a review meeting of officers of Rural Development Department held here today. The meeting was chaired by Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishore and Minister of State for Rural Development Mr. Javid Mustafa Mir was also present in the meeting. The meeting was informed that under various centrally sponsored schemes Rs.11 crore have so far been spent in the state under Rural Development sector and 1264 works have been completed out the total 3640 works taken up under SGSYin the state. The meeting was informed that under rural sanitation programme 7000 individual and community latrines have been constructed in the state and projects have also been formulated for solid liquid compost management in bigger and densely populated villages of the state. Projects for Rural Sanitation Mart are also being formulated in certain districts of the state. Implementation of IWDP and Hariyali programme also came up for discussion in the meeting and the Minister asked the implementing agencies to make these programmes effective and rescue oriented. He also asked them to encourage constitution of more and more Self Help Groups under SGSY and persuade the rural youth to set up their own income generating units under state Self Employment programme. He also directed the officers to ensure timely supply of materials for Model villages and use cost effective and durable material in overall rural development works. He also asked few strengthening the rural engineering wing and ensure close co-ordination among various field agencies of the Rural Development Department. Addressing the meeting Minister of State for Rural Development Mr. Javid Mustafa Mir impressed upon the officers to avoid delay of payments after the completion of the rural development works besides ensuring timely completion of these. He also asked them to ensure that works done are in accordance with the estimates and field functionaries are made more responsible and accountable. He also suggested for a proper transfer policy in the Rural Development Department in this regard. Secretary Rural Development Mr. M. S. khan, Director RD Jammu Mr. G. R. Bhagat, Director RD Kashmir Mr. M. A. Bukhari and other senior officers of the department also attended the meeting. |
