| Remain calm over the victory | | | Nirbhay Jammual
Even blatedly the Governments,in Sringar and Delhi,conceded the main demands of the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti.One may be mistaken if one thinks that it is the victory of either the Sangarsh Samiti or those groups that were part of it.It is the victory of those who died while agitating against the revocation of the land order. The agitation launched by the people in the Jammu region,which also received support in rest of the country,achieved the goal mainly on account of the martyrdom of people like Kuldeep Dogra,Dr Balwant Raj Khajuria,Manjit Singh,Romesh Kumar and others.Their sacrifices and the sufferings of scores of people who were injured awakened the central Government.Had not people in lakhs demonstrated their unity in fighting to the finish the Government would not have yielded because the establishment in Srinagar and Delhi had believed that the agitation will peter out within days.Their belief was belied as people braved lathi blows,tear smoke and bullets while defying curfew restrictions.
The stir in Jammu assumed the shape of a volcano sending shivers down the pents of the Government and those political leaders who opposed the demand of the Sangarsh Samiti.Not only the people in the valley but even the separatists felt rattled with the developments in the Jammu region.The disruption in the movement of goods left people in the valley a worried lot.They pined for chicken and mutton.Though the disruption remained a weeklong affair they kept on shouting against economic blockade.And when they realised the gravity of the situation in Jammu the separatists diverted peoples'attention from the land row to the trade route and to the settlement of the Kashmir issue.Now the land row has been settled to the satisfaction of the people of the Jammu region time has come when these very brave people should avoid doing anything that would waste the sacrifices given by Kuldeep and others.
The land row has already generated regional and communal divide.The demand of the hour is to try to bridge the regional gap.I vividly remember that the Jammuites were provoked to the flash point by the jubiliations that were witnessed in Kashmir soon after the land diversion order was revoked.Now it is not the duty of the brave Jammuites to induge in revelry over the settlement of the land row.It may widen the regional gap.During the last two months of turmoil in Jammu agitators simply shouted the slogan of "Bhum Bhum Bholey" signifying their faith in Lord Shiva.It would be appreciable on their part if they avoid organising victory rallies and instead pray for the peace of souls of those who lost their lives while agitating against the revocation of the land order.In the morning of Sunday people fired crackers while celebrating their victory.The money spent on bursting crackers could have been donated to the Samiti or to the families of those who lost their kins in the battle against separatist forces.History bears testimony to the fact that the Jammuites have never given any provocation to those in the valley.Instead the Jammuites have been provoked .They have tolerated discrimnation without giving provocation to thoe cementing the level of discrimination.Hence in the current wave of success it will not befit the brave Jammuites to provoke even their political enemies.If they have remained calm in despair they should be the same in success also. |
